Brussels

When my mom came to visit the end of December/beginning of January, she explored Marriott hotels that we may be able to stay at for a get-away New Year’s weekend. My mom’s cousin was stationed in Brussels for several years with her husband and raved about how much they enjoyed Belgium. Off we went to Brussels, Belgium, located about 4 hours driving distance away from us. Luckily, the Christmas markets were still set up in the town, so we hopped, skipped, and jumped with excitement to show my mom the moment that we arrived.

The hotel that we stayed in provided us with a concierge lounge, where drinks and meals were provided throughout the day. We ate all of our meals there, and of course, got our fill of Belgian beer (Stella). One thing we did make sure to eat were authentic Belgian waffles coated with Belgian chocolate (if there is Heaven on earth, this was surely it!).

Needless to say, Evan was in his all-time happy place.

We walked around the town to see as much as we possibly could in such a short amount of time. There were Manneken Pis’ EVERYWHERE around the town (I didn’t realize that Brussels was famous for it until after the fact LOL).  We saw the cathedral of St. Michael and St. Gudula, mini-

Europe, the town hall, royal museums of fine arts, the royal palace, and just about anything else you can think of existing in the town. It’s a very small city, so seeing all of these sites in a short amount of time was very do-able.

After hunting down some Belgian chocolate for souvenirs, we headed back to the hotel to get our last fill of Belgian food and drinks.

On the way back home from Brussels, we stopped in Luxembourg since our GPS routed us to drive directly through it. Unfortunately, it was raining nonstop from the time we arrived, so we ate dinner at a little bistro and were on our way after looking at a castle from afar.
